History
John Walker debuted as the corporate-sponsored Super-Patriot, possessing superhuman strength, endurance, and reflexes thanks to treatments from the Power Broker. Soon after, the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, was forced to abandon his costume and identity or blindly serve the US government. Rogers resigned, donning a black costume and calling himself the "Captain", and Walker was made the new Captain America. He was trained in the use of Captain America's shield by the Taskmaster, and was partnered with a new Bucky, who later changed his codename to Battlestar. As the new Captain America, he was more brutal than his predecessor. When his former manager, Ethan Thurm, revealed Walker's identity to the press, his parents were killed by the Watchdogs, a militia group under the control of the Red Skull, driving Walker ever closer to a mental breakdown. In the final climactic battle between himself, the original Captain America, and the Red Skull, Walker was presumed deceased, although in actuality he survived and spent some time in psychiatric rehabilitation.
He soon resurfaced as the USAgent, wearing a variation of the costume that Rogers had worn as the Captain and using a vibranium disc as a shield. He was placed on the West Coast Avengers roster by the US government as a condition of their government charter. After the Avengers moved to a UN-based charter, he received only one vote (from himself) in the ensuing vote and consequently lost his place on the team, although he later rejoined. When the West Coast Avengers dissolved, he dumped his USAgent costume and shield into the Hudson River.
-Alternate History-
Walker subsequently disappeared into the underbelly of society, taking to drinking until the 9/11 terrorists attacks brought the US government to seek him out. Reunited with his uniform and shield, Walker agreed to take up the mantle once more. While Captain America was the countryÕs squeaky-clean mascot, USAgent served black ops very well, going into places Steve Rogers couldnÕt and doing things Captain America wouldnÕt.
All in all, itÕs worked out well for John Walker, and heÕs taken the opportunity to lookup the rest of the AvengerÕs hearing about the teamÕs recent resurrection and possible reassignment to James RhodesÕ jurisdiction through the S.H.I.E.L.D. grapevine
