Rules for Registering a Created Character:
We understand that many players have creative minds, and need outlets. Or maybe you've had an idea for a character that you think would go great with the room. Or perhaps you just don't like any of the Marvel characters but you still want to roleplay in Marvel Utopia. This is where a created character comes in. However, there are a few stipulations for creating an original character. We will try to keep them basic as we understand that a lot of limitations hinder the creative mind.
1. As with Existing Marvel Characters, no new player in Marvel Utopia will be allowed a power ranking above Amazing, for a period of one and a half months. This will allow Council to watch your roleplay and determine, in accordance with your roleplaying ability, whether or not any ranking above Amazing would be beneficial to your character, and the room. After the waiting period, if your character is granted a power rank augmentation, it will increase to the next power level (e.g. from Amazing to Monstrous).
2. Even though we do allow players to have rankings of Amazing, please keep in mind that Amazing is already a high and powerful rank. Generally speaking, each character will have one or possibly two powers or stats that have been developed enough to achieve this rank. Your character sheet will not be approved with a multitude of Amazing ranks. For created characters, we are aiming to make them as believable as possible within the Marvel canon.
For example, if your character is a young girl with virtually no sort of training, then it is unfeasible for Strength to be ranked at Amazing (lift 50 tons0, unless of course, superstrength happens to be your mutant power.
We do have a character sheet template, as well as a variety of benchmarks and explanations posted in the FAQs section. Please utilize them.
3. Any power ranks at Unearthly or above shall be subject to Council approval, even after the initial trial period and regardless of whether you are a veteran player or a new player in Marvel Utopia.
4. If your character has a history that is integrated with existing Marvel characters (such as sister, brother, child from alternate timeline), it is advised that you ask the person playing that character, if it is in play at this time.
5. If you would like your character to be a part of one of the teams in the room (X-Men, Avenger, Fantastic Four), you must ask the permission of a Council member first, as well as the permission of that team’s leader.
6. Characters with extensive powers will not be approved, no matter what the power ranking is. This is in effect for new and veteran players to Marvel Utopia, and long lists of powers will be shortened before approval.
Many existing Marvel characters only have a few powers, and most of those are related to each other in some form. A created character should not simply be an attempt to grab as many powers as possible that you could not get from an existing character.
For example, Cyclops has one power – an optic blast. He can use this power in many ways, but it is still only one power. Also, in Marvel, powers generally tend to complement one another, instead of being a hodgepodge of random powers that are not related. An example of this would be Telepathy and Telekinesis. These powers complement one another well. However, characters that are strong in mental powers are usually lacking in physical strength and powers, and vice versa.
On a normal basis, characters with more than four powers, or with powers that are not complementary, will not be approved without revisions. An exception to this would be a magical character, and then, a Council member will work with you to give your character an acceptable amount of power.
As your Council, we will endeavor to meet your character needs to the best of our abilities. However, please keep in mind that we are only human and do make mistakes as well. We are more than willing to work with your, but we ask that you be will to meet us halfway. Generally, if there are no problems or concerns regarding a character, all submissions and questions will be reviewed and answered within 24 hours. Most of the time, it is faster than that, however RT (real time) afflicts Council members as well. If, at any time, you have a problem with a Council member, it is your right to have it solved. Please contact another council member and present your problem, and we will do our best to settle the problem in a peaceful manner.
Upgrading a Created Character:
After your character has been active in Marvel Utopia for over a month and a half, you may apply to have your character's stats and ranks upgraded. Post, as a REPLY to your original submission, the proposed changes you are interesting in making. Then, the Council will determine whether or not these changes are beneficiary for your character. Please do not edit your character sheet once it has been approved. Although we have all the registered characters on file, it is much easier to look back and forth is both are intact on the same thread. If you edit yor character without Council's approval, your character could be withdrawn from the roleplay.
