We are sure that many new players to this type of role play (or even veterans) are going to have questions about this type of room. Please peruse this thread and look for the answers to any questions you might have before asking them.
If you feel that a question should be added to the list below, feel free to post a reply to the topic.
The current FAQ list is as follows: 1.) Where exactly is Marvel Utopia? 2.) What do I need to start playing in the room? 3.) Which Marvel characters are taken? 4.) Who is in charge around here? 5.) Can I change / upgrade my character sheet? 7.) Why do I have to register my character? 8.) How do you calculate Karma and Health? 9.) When are characters recirculated? 10.) Can I play a character on The Ban List?
Thank you!

What do I need to start playing in the room?First of all, you need to register to use this message board. Next, decide what type of character you'd like to play (a Marvel canon character or a created character) and follow the steps for registering your character: Guidelines for Registering a Marvel CharacterGuidelines for Registering a Created CharacterIf you need any help during the registration process, please feel free to contact any member of Council. Their contact information is in their profiles. Then you simply need to wait for one of the council members to review your character's bio, and make sure everything is in place. Once this is done, we will either approve the character or give a list of things that need to be changed before approval.

Which Marvel characters are taken? In order to facilitate with choosing a character, we try to keep an updated and current list of all Marvel characters that have been registered. If you'd like to pick up a character, but are unsure if it is available, there are a few things you can do: - View the list of Characters in Play - View the Marvel Character Database - Ask a Council member!

Can I change / upgrade my character sheet?
Yes, we do allow characters to occasionally upgrade or change their character sheet. Upgrades are first available only after the character has been in play for longer than six weeks. When upgrading your character, you should submit the proposed changes as a reply to your character sheet. After Council has gotten a chance to review the changes and approve them, you will be able to start roleplaying out the changes in the room.
Always make sure that you get Council's approval before roleplaying out upgrades to the stats on your character sheet. If you haven't received approval, then the changes cannot be made, even if you have roleplayed them out in the room.

Why do I have to register my character?
Marvel Utopia is a different type of roleplay room than what many of you may be experienced with. It is based loosely on Marvel comics, there are many existing characters that players can register to play, without creating their own from scratch. Since we do have existing characters, we require a registry primarily to prevent more than one of the same character being played. This also allows Marvel Utopia to keep track of not only what character is being played, but from what timeline and under what power statistics to curb confusion within the room.
Registering a "homemade" character for Marvel Utopia also helps to keep track of the powers and statistics for the room's general wellbeing. Just as we have some Marvel characters banned from use for being too powerful, we cannot allow homemade characters that are equally as powerful.
While this might seem tedious, we have found it works wonderfully, and provides a good balance in the room, so everyone can have fun, and enjoy their roleplays.

How do you calculate Karma and Health?
These are two things that you can list on your character sheet. To be honest, we use these rarely, if ever. The formula for calculating both are listed below, but you can also leave them blank when submitting your sheet. We will then give you a rank (instead of a number) for Health, and probably still leave Karma blank!
Health: F+A+S+E / 4 Karma: R+I+P / 3
