History: Mia grew up the oldest of three children, in a loving home. Her family didn’t have a lot of money, but they managed to make it by. However, when Mia turned fifteen, after lighting some candles in her room, she found herself staring at the flames. She found herself enchanted by the flame and wishing there was more of it. It wasn’t until she heard her little sister scream, that she’d seemed to come back to her senses to see that all of the candles in her room had been shooting up larger flames. Her parents had rushed to her sister’s screams, and saw what was happening. In fear and anger, they demanded for Mia to explain what was going on. When Mia told them she didn’t understand, they told her they couldn’t have something like her in the house with her siblings and she had to leave now.
Mia grabbed anything she could shove in her backpack and left. She’s never looked back. She couch surfed with different friends who had more understanding parents, and when that ran out, she found herself falling into a rougher part of life. She was young, scrappy and willing to do what she needed to survive.
She started getting a reputation as a shoplifter, spent a couple rounds in juvenile detention which only taught her how to be smarter, and better at how to recognize what was worth the effort, what was worth the risk. She did manage to get her GED, and with that she was able to get more legit work. However, she quickly learned that legit jobs, paid for crap. However, given even her juvie record, and well, being known by the local authorities, she decided that getting a little money and getting on a bus to go somewhere else, preferably another big, loud and noisy city would be best.
From here, Mia has learned a bit more on how to control her connection with fire. In addition to her lock picks, she tends to scratch out her living with small, petty heists. However, she has no real sense about managing her money, and so any cash she does get through her work gets spent on cheap rooms, food and clothing. Particularly an indulgence in clothing and make up. She was obsessed with watching videos of how to alter her appearance using different make up tricks, wigs, clothing styles. Changing her look seemed to help mask who she was.
She’s continued to practice her own pyrokinetic abilities throughout the years, hoping that perhaps one day she might be able to go home, show her family that she isn’t a threat. Though the further she goes down the path of being a thief, and petty crime, the more she wonders if they wouldn’t want her to come back for that reason as well. She tends to keep herself on the fringes of society, limiting her close connections to people to avoid the rejection she felt as a teen.
